Monday, Monday GoJu Nation and we start it off right with da movie charts. We’re starting to get the little gems that end off the summer and swing into Oscar season and some of the numbers bear that out… “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” of course rule movie land for the second week in a row. The last of the summer blockbusters is exactly that by grossing over 100M in those 2 weeks. Which officially makes this a franchise. Look for another “Apes” movie within the coming years (will Mark Wahlberg return??). The charming movie “The Help” which breaks down the scandalous lifestyle of a small town told from the perspective of the maids comes in at number two this week. A solid 25M makes this one of the sleepers of the summer and if can gain some momentum (the in theater marketing was very strong) it may be in the Oscar conversation but it needs bigger box office to make that a possibility.
The chart that gets your week off to a great start is here GoJu Nation. Even if it’s Tuesday lol. And this is interesting GoJu Nation. Although it cheated with a couple of earlier releases around the country, this past week “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” has broken the opening weekend debut mark with over $169M in receipts. The final chapter of this phenomenon is ending on a major high note. Grossing over $6.5B in receipts makes this the most successful movie franchise ever. Especially for a 8 movie stretch. In this age of social network and media being what it is, I’ll be surprised to see if another movie franchise will captivate the world the way the world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry has.
It’s Monday GoJu Nation and you know what that means… da movie charts. Nice weekend for the movie industry. Enough of you guys went out there to check some things out. We’ll start with ‘The Green Hornet’. With the reviews being lukewarm at best, that didn’t stop the superhero flick from being #1 at the box office this weekend. With competition this weekend being minimal (and the best football weekend of the year keeping people glued to their flatscreens) this weekend was a perfect marketing place to put this film. I can’t see Seth Rogan playing suave Britt Reid but nevertheless #1 this week
