SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: THE ART OF RAP is a feature-length performance documentary film about the runaway juggernaut that is Rap music. At the wheel of this unstoppable beast is the film’s director and interviewer Ice-T. Ice-T takes us on a deeply personal journey to uncover how this music of the street has grown to dominate the world. Along the way Ice-T meets some of the remarkable superstars of Rap, from Eminem to Dr. Dre, to Snoop Dogg and Kanye West. He exposes the roots and history of Rap and then, through meeting most of its most famous protagonists studies the living mechanism of the music to reveal The Art Of Rap.

Back in March, I let you all know about Ludacris‘ entry into the headphone market (Click here). Following his music colleague Dr. Dre with his version of the best headphone to hit the market. So now with the help of CNet.com, GothamJungle will inform you on which is best. The verdict is in and the winner seems to be Luda.

The chart that drives the music industry is here GoJu Nation!! Da digi-charts are live and thriving.  Eleven count em 11 singles cracking the 100K download mark.  And as we set it up last week Jennifer Lopez and her current single leads the way. Another 200K plus in downloads and the single has officially arrived.  I’m gonna say it.  I wonder how much of a success this single would have if there wasn’t an American Idol to piggy back? I’m not sayin, I’m just saying. A nice marketing machine to get behind and around your project if you can get it.  (Sidebar) Mrs. Mark Anthony is leading a 6 female artist train from the top of the charts. Number 1 through 6 all female.  Get down girls go head get down…

Ok GoJu Nation & especially Cindi,  I have the Digi-Singles chart here for you.  The tell-tale chart that will let you know which artists are actually moving units. Again bear with us as we’re getting our GothamJungle feet back underneath us. The sexy thing you’ll find this week is that all of the artists are moving significant units of their current single.  Which means that everyone is eating to an extent.  And it also lets us know that this recession thing (at least when it comes to consumers) is prolly in the rear view mirror at this point. Let’s jump into this thing a lil…

It’s a lil late but the topics are relevant enough to post anyway.  Don’t blame my heart, I’ve been busy… And after you watch, click the Amazon widget below and get you video game purchase on. But, for now Courtesy of G4 here is “The Feed.

Many of the entertainment people I know including myself say to aspiring artists that they need to think outside the box. Now most people never get the concept but we try. I have been saying for years that hip hop will die if we don’t understand how to expand the appeal of the genre. To my surprise, and I say this because I did not think of the idea, nor had the clout to pull the idea off, but Dr. Dre is in computing. I must say either Dre is a genius, or the people around him (advising what he does) are amazing. Either way it still makes him a genius. Dr. Dre is building an empire.

The new game Def Jam Rapstar from Konami and 4mm Games isn’t just a hip hop karaoke game or a challenging performance simulator like Rock Band 3. It’s a social media platform for building connections, promoting yourself, speaking your mind and maybe (just maybe) becoming an actual rap star.

I’m not in grinch mode so, in the spirit of the holidays no derogatory remarks.  I like how Ke$ha is cutting into the Lady Gaga phenomenon.  She is definitely making her mark. I think it’s worth mentioning 2 rap records making a dent (which is something we spoke on earlier this year).  And again quality trumps quantity as Ludacris and Eminem feat. Dr. Dre rank at #9/#10 respectfully.  This is worth watching.  Other notes:  this is the 1st week in a very long time where you have the album charts trumping the singles chart.  This is a holiday fluke not a year long trend.  Look for the world to go back to normal in the next couple of weeks… Also take note of how many singles have Lil Wayne on it.  Haven’t seen this much over exposure since R.Kelly was in trouble.   Ok I’m done enjoy the top 20 and I hope this holiday season is goin well for everyone.  Remember, It’s a GothamJungle thing baby…!!!
