NCAA tournament has the blog compass off a bit. But you do get your album charts before the end of the week. Noticeably, I see the 1st four ( almost five ) albums breaking the 100k download mark. Very encouraging. Also of note, afterwards the drop off in sales is drastic (#20 not moving at least 15k?!?!, pathetic). Just when these charts get my juices flowing, they let me down. GothamJungle did speak in its infancy that the paradigm has shifted from albums to singles, I’m just nostalgic for the album genre to still dictate the landscape. I’ll have to let that go. On to the actual charts GoJu Nation….

Here we go GoJu Nation. It’s been pretty busy here lately here at GothamJungle and part of us keeping “Da Nation” happy is keeping the charts consistent. So we deliver da albums. The weekly barometer on how well the music industry is performing. I searched for an album that sold over 100K this past week. I couldn’t find that. What I did find was an album sitting at number 20 that sold close to 17 thousand units. And I also found a number one album that moved 76,000 units. This basically explains the consistent chatter about EMI Music’s pending availability and Warner Music Groups recent sale to Access Industries. This environment sucks. Just like the economy you can’t make heads or tails of what is happening in this field. The only silver lining is the projects that are actually selling are qualitative and consumers are there in droves. Let’s use that as a segue..

We’ve had a nice week over here at GothamJungle and we’re gonna end it on the GoJu high note: Da Digi-Singles chart. The pulse of the music industry sits right here.  Wanna know who’s really selling and making moves? This is the chart.  And sitting on top this week is LMFAO with “Party Rock Anthem” which will be a double platinum single by this time next week.  They are following the current business model by putting out timely singles that move significant numbers that will hopefully lead up to a nice selling album.  Good job guys.  There was a feeling out that there that you may have been “one hit wonders”. Rumor squashed.

There’s a lot of things going on with GothamJungle this year so GoJu nation, we appreciate your support and holding us down as we go through this transition. With that being said I’m happy to provide you with the album charts before the weekend hits.  And how about this run Adele is on.  She’s back at the number 1 spot for a 2nd week in a row and making the Lady Gaga promotion tsunami look like a sunshower. And she’s still riding the album cut “Rolling in the Deep”! Amazing! This project is what every label is looking for from a sales standpoint.  Not a lot of $$ being spent to market & promote due to the record driving the sales by being a hit.  Not every project can reap the benefits of this magic carpet ride you get 1 to 2 every year.  And this is the year of Adele.

I’m getting them in before the long weekend GoJu Nation..  Here are your album charts & prepare to press the snooze bar. Because outside of Adele the drop off is staggering.  A seventy thousand unit drop from album #1 and #2 says a lot.  The summer must be around the corner with disposable income being dispersed elsewhere.  One things for sure, it’s definitely NOT landing in the music industry’s pocket this week. Sports events, travel, video games, summer movies etc. all are getting the family dollar as of today.  But fret not music world. Lady Gaga (this week) and Beyonce‘ (next month) are around the corner and hopefully will breathe some life into the music landscape.

I know GoJu Nation, I should be put in front of a firing squad for the way I keep leading you on. One week on, then a week or so off with these charts…it isn’t fair and I’m working diligently on keeping this consistent with all of the other GothamJungle tasks that require attention. But, that’s not your issue. You just want the charts. So here we go.

Back again from hiatus GoJu Nation.  I personally am walking, chewing gum, cooking, juggling and dancing simultaneously so bear with me as I’m keeping the blog current.  With that out-of-the-way we’re here at the album chart.  Which this week has a few interesting developments. Starting with Adele and Marsha Ambrosius debuting at #1 & #2.  And with numbers that speak to core demographic that supports their brand of music.  That’s encouraging with the rock genre and country game championing their causes.   This (especially for M. Ambrosius) is a nice look for R&B/Pop.

I thought I would be pulling out the crash cart again this week with the album charts. But, I forget Taylor Swift is in the game which puts a different spin on things. Now there isn’t a reason to get excited because once we get past the 1st 2 albums (Taylor Swift & Jason Aldean) the drop off is significant and gives you flashbacks of weeks past.  But with 500K between the top 2 albums it gives hope with the holidays around the corner (is it me or am I seeing X-mas commercials already?).
