BET Awards Recap (by Q'ban)

For the first time in ten years since the beginning, I have enjoyed watching the BET Awards. From beginning to end I thought there were few misses and tons of hits. The entrance of Kanye West was great, and the hosting of the Queen Latifah was dignified.

“Kyle Breaks it Down” (by featured Blogger Kyle West)

I know I’m not in a bubble when the question is raised; “Is Drake gonna be the biggest thing to hit Hip-Hop/R&B since 50 Cent“.  I actually don’t know.  Not since Lil Wayne‘ has the industry been a buzz about an upcoming project.  The good news is that Drake hasn’t disappointed since he’s hit the scene.  His verses have been solid and his appearances viable (plus it seems the girls love his eye candy quotient). The not so good news is that nothing has been as big as his 1st single “Best I’ve Ever Had” Drake - So Far Gone - Best I Ever Had .  Soo, the jury is still out.  And it only makes sense that I bring out resident professional Kyle West to shed some light on Drake’s newest single “Find Your Love” Drake - Find Your Love - Single. So GoJu Nation without further adieu Mr. Kyle West.

Album Review-

“Victory” to me is just that. DJ Khaled has created a street/commercial masterpiece. It is difficult for me to say but I think he possibly produced one of the best Hip-Hop albums of the year. The collaboration of all those ego’s to manufacture great music is applaudable. Great production, that musically matches the flows and delivery of the various artists. This is truly an A&R’ed project. It seems that DJ Khaled has developed his ear, at-least for himself to create a full product. “Killing Me”, wow… ridiculously HOT! Buck shots!!! Big tune. Busta goes in, Buju goes in, Bounty Killer goes in. (#8 on the drop). Get that “Victory” on March 2nd… or grab it here.

Exclusive!!! Keri Hilson feat. Ne-Yo! Exclusive (by GothamJungle)

Now I’m gonna go on record.  And I said this last year. I’m not sold on Keri Hilson.! Main reason is, she hasn’t made a hit record by herself.  She has had Ne Yo, Kanye West and Lil Wayne on every record that has been a hit.  She hasn’t stood on her own and I don’t know if she can.  So until I hear a solo record minus an A-lister.  I’m not buying it.  Proving my point is her new duet with Ne-Yo “Ready to Fall”.  I do co-sign.  The song is solid.  But Mr. Mosely, it’s time for you to give Keri some of the energy you put into Justin and Nelly Furtado. GoJu Nation 1001 - Conflict Gold and the Congo (by GothamJungle)

When Kanye West did “Diamonds are Forever” it was more than a James Bond soundtrack loop.  It opened Hip-Hop to conflict diamonds which then turned into a movie (Blood Diamond).  Ironically if you watched the James Bond Movie “Diamonds are Forever” there are strong references to conflict diamonds back then (1971).

But this entry is to inform you about the gold scenario in Africa which is just as conflicted as diamonds.  And the deaths in Africa (specifically the congo) are the highest since WWII.  Please listen/watch.  This is beyond relevant…

Here we go…. I Love This.  And on this level this is why NY is NY.   The Jay-Z/Alicia Keys duet “Empire State of  Mind” is the #1 Digi-Single in the country.  Galvanized by a memorable VMA performance and the thirst of an Empire State that’s starving for an anthem (knowing it’s the state that invented hip-hop), that’s the platform for which this single is hot.  Mr. Carter has 2 additional singles in the top 20 this week as well continuing this being the month of Blueprint 3.  Outside of  the “Forever” mega-single (with Drake, Kanye, Eminem, Weezy etc.) there isn’t much change on the charts this week.   Keep on the look out for more exclusives this weekend and enjoy the top 20!  It’s a GothamJungle thing baby…!!!

Back again with my A&R thought process. Or let me better state that… my business man thought process. So we all know that the music industry has been in a steady decline over the past few years, and urban music has been getting most notable acclaim in that effect, being that huge numbers of companies are doing layoff or closing its doors (ex. Sony Urban). With that said, everyone is trying to figure out the marketplace and how to sell music that the majors are spending money to produce. There are a few approaches that artists have done, some good and some bad… but I am going to break down some secrets that YOU may not have thought of. Real talk, music is a psychology thing. Confused yet?… As much as the fans would like to believe it is a hot music thing, I am here to tell you hot music is 10% of this biz… F*ck that! 5%! Everything falls into the execution.
