This Week on Da Charts - Da Albums (by Mive Content)

As the month changes to September so do Da Album charts. The biggest surprise of the week is that Usher didn’t chart higher than 4th. I expected WAY more than only 45K for this EP.  2 reasons: 1) His single with Pitbull is a 2010 pop formula smash around the country (hell if Jason DeRulo, Jay Sean, Taio Cruz etc. can do it why not Mr. Raymond). 2) Hot Tottie with Jay Z is an urban club/mixtape smash that you can’t escape (How many times have you heard “Call Me King Hov Copy” in the last month?). But I did some research and found out why.  Sony/Jive (and their greedy asses) put out a deluxe version of Raymond v Raymond where there a bonus disk which is the Versus EP. So as his label is looking to capitalize on 2 albums, they basically split the consumer base and in turn they confused them as to which album is the focus.   (F@*king labels and their B.S.) I really wanted a bigger # from Mr. Raymond.

Soldier salute to the Nation, your boy Q is back with more heat. I had to take a few days to recharge the batteries but the R&B Diva Jazmine Sullivan dropped a video that I had to come out swinging on. Okay y’all so here is the basics, I love the song. The concept, structure, production, her vocals… damn near everything is top-notch. With that said, WTF is going on with the video?!

This Week on Da Charts - Da Digi-Singles (by Mive Content)

We do have a splash this week GoJu Nation.  When the 2 biggest names in Hip-Hop/Rap today get together I guess it would, right?  Lil Wayne latest feat. Drake “Right Above It” moved over 200K in its debut week. It’s so rare to see over 200K moving anywhere I had to take a 2nd look. But it’s not a typo. And this smells like Universal getting ready to release a new album in conjunction with Lil Wayne’s release. That way they can capitalize off of the press/attention that his release will garner. I’m curious GoJu Nation, will Lil Wayne or Drake go down in history with the greats (in R&B/Hip-Hop) or are they the focus of our A.D.D. for now and they won’t pass the 5 year test. Weigh in on that one GoJu Nation. I would love your thoughts on that.

This Week on Da Charts-Da Albums (by Mive Content)

Here we go GoJu Nation. Another week, another slow week of album sales.  I know the summer is just about over and school is in session but Dayum. Only Eminem cracks the 100K mark this week (barely).  After that, straight free-fall for the rest of the charts.  The 20th album in the country (Zac Brown Band) moved only 16K units. I’m just looking for the winds of change GoJu Nation, that’s all.  Will the album medium be viable again? And if so when?  Right now the singles chart rules the industry.

This Week on Da Charts - Da Digi-Singles (by Mive Content)

End of the week so you know what that means. We gotta get GoJu Nation right with the digi-singles chart.  The albums aren’t moving but the singles are.  So to see who really making moves/money etc., this is the chart you want to peruse. As I look em over I realize that 18 of the top 20 singles are all in the pop vain.  You can debate Taylor Swift but she’s as big a pop artist as country. Nicki Minaj makes her top 20 debut with “Your Love”. A decent start for an artist that has a lot of debate if she’s “the truth” or not. MTV loves the video and her Annie Lennox sample doesn’t hurt either.  One more (more like 2 more) single of this caliber or better and she’s off the runway…

Behind the Scenes: Marques Houston's

What’s good followers… back for another day on “The Industry”. I bring to you a deep look behind the scenes of Marques Houston‘s new video for the second single “Noize”. Now you all now if you are a true follower of me and the blog than you know I am a MH fan. With that said “Mattress Music” is a good addition to the R&B collection… coming soon. “Noize” comes off like a classier version of Trey Songz‘s “Neighbors Know My Name”. Now I personal love them both (the songs)… but for me I have to give the edge to MH due to the fact that I think “Noize” is a good follow-up from the Ricky Ross mess of an opening single. Plus, the older crowd can listen to it and not be too put off. Good job my dude. Album review coming soon.~Qban

This Week on Da Charts - Da Albums (by Mive Content)

I have to be honest GoJu Nation.  The album charts are in such a bad place, I wasn’t even motivated to give em out to you.  I’ve been barking every week about how anemic the overall charts are and it’s just not getting any better. I’m not a fan of being redundant so I’ve been lax in delivering.  There just isn’t enough material here.  Eminem is back at the #1 spot (deservedly), Arcade Fire has managed to stay at #2 (although the sales don’t justify a number two ranking) & amazingly Bun B is still in the top 20 (#17) with a sh**ty 16K.  This is nothing but sad.

The band that dominated the early 2000′s is back after a long layoff, Limp Bizkit. The new album “Gold Cobra” seems like it will be a personal reflection to the fans explaining the bands turmoil and struggles to deal with fame and the pressures of growing up in the hype of the music industry. The opening single, “Walking Away”, comes across as Fred Durst explaining his deep thoughts of the band separating. As rockers do best, they can get deep on lyrics, he does that so eloquently here.

This Week on Da Charts - Da Digi-Singles (by Mive Content)

We’re gonna end this week on a strong note GoJu Nation.  We have a chart listing here where the top 10 singles have all been downloaded over 100 thousand times. The top 3 digi-singles over 200 thousand times with the #1 single (Taylor Swifts newest “Mine) almost hitting 300K.  So tried and true is the singles chart with major movement compared to the album charts.  This is the year where the paradigm shift is official.  It’s more about your single movement than it’s about your album movement. Taylor Swift moving almost 300 thousand downloads…. Woah…

Crash cart time again GoJu Nation.   I do realize that summer is in the rear view mirror and school season is coming up fast.  That means disposable income spending isn’t happening as other priorities take precedence. But only 2 albums breaking the 100K mark last week?  #3 (Bun B’s “Trill O.G.”) only moving 45K+? The 20th album in the country (Train’s “Save Me San Francisco” which has the anthem “Hey, Soul Sister”) barely moving over 14K?  This is anemic at best.  You can help get the album charts off of life support by clicking the Apple links below and getting your download on. I’m watching to see if this trend continues through the rest of 2010 but, it seems that a major paradigm shift is happening when it comes to the perception of a successful album project.
