It’s been a couple of months so please forgive my neglect. Our CEO has been doing some big things personally and I had to be there to support. Yes, it never ends for Mive over here in GothamJungle. But I’ve escaped long enough to put da album charts in your possession. And I’ve instantly noticed the Taylor Swift movement is still a very viable music entity. Her moving over a million units in her 1st week is nothing short of remarkable in this changing environment. Hopefully the music industry will recognize this as an exception and not the rule. Seeing this through rose color glasses is one of the reasons why this genre is falling down the disposable income totem pole. Let’s see what da album charts have to offer.

See this is what upsets Mive Content. With what’s happening in the world, one major success & the everyone thinks the drought is over. Clearly not the case. This is why we are blessed to have Mive Content…..

We end the work week off right GoJu Nation by providing you with the Digi-Singles chart. Let me start by giving a HUGE GothamJungle apology for being lax in supplying you with this listing.  It’s the industry standard and deserves more respect.  I’ll personally take a more involved effort to get you this chart more efficiently. Now lets see what we’re really looking at here.

Here you go GoJu Nation. The chart that used to rule the world is back.  The album chart returns.  Now last week we had Taylor Swift at the #1 spot. But what sent the industry a blaze was that she moved only 52K at that post. Which resulted in different sites speaking on how this is a putrid way to start of 2011 (which is true).  Well the #1 spot this week moved only 44K. And that title goes to Cake.  Now they have been moving their project for the past year etc. And have built a following that garners a #1 spot.  It’s just that the market doesn’t bear selling a lot of units post holiday. So 40K plus is what you get. Confirmation of the 2010 paradigm shift chart wise.

GoJu Nation were back in the game.  The album chart returns and we also bought the stretcher with the ambulance.  For the sales numbers are back in the crapper.  The #1 album in the country (Taylor Swift) sold only 52K this week. Putrid compared to her moving over a million units in week 1.  Now truss Taylor Swift is fine (you can see she’s sold over 3M albums), but I prayerful that this isn’t an indication of what we’re looking forward to in 2011. No debut albums this week so we’ll analyze some of the current albums and see how they’re performing.

Everyone have a Happy Holiday?  Are the batteries fully recharged?  Did you get some Rest & Relaxation? Lord knows I did.  A real roller-coaster ride for GothamJungle the past few months but keeping the faith we’re back on track.  And a nice way to start of the New Year is with da album charts. There were a lot of major album releases in the past few weeks and with the smoke clearing from the holidays we can now look at the album charts with clarity.  Not hype or gas that’s misplaced.  We of course have the actual numbers. That why we say “It’s a GothamJungle thing baby”.  Now lets take a look at the charts.

She’s back GoJu Nation.  And with a vengeance.  Who do you know that has the power to knock Taylor Swift off the #1 perch without any major marketing & promotion?  Who sold over 3 million records last year underneath the radar of the industry?  Ok enough with the guessing games.  Susan “The Voice of an Angel” Boyle is back!!! And she can’t be denied people.  Over 300K plus is sales!!!! She & Taylor Swift literally raise the charts overall percentile. Follow my logic.  If more people are in the stores purchasing Taylor Swift or Susan Boyle, there are prone to buy more albums so other artists get the boost off their popularity…. See. wink

I thought I would be pulling out the crash cart again this week with the album charts. But, I forget Taylor Swift is in the game which puts a different spin on things. Now there isn’t a reason to get excited because once we get past the 1st 2 albums (Taylor Swift & Jason Aldean) the drop off is significant and gives you flashbacks of weeks past.  But with 500K between the top 2 albums it gives hope with the holidays around the corner (is it me or am I seeing X-mas commercials already?).

Ok.   Now this is what I’m talking about when I say the industry doesn’t get it.  And they are wondering why sales are down across the board.  I’ve been screaming and yelling that if you give them quality and not try to stuff these albums with mediocre quantity they will come. How do I know this to be the case.  Cause over 1M people jammed the stores to get Taylor Swift’s newest album “Speak Now”.  Her last album sold over 10M worldwide, spawned multiple #1 hits and won her a best album Grammy. That is called foundation people.  Which requires minimum marketing & promotion.  It’s like a Prince concert. You know it’s gonna be hot so the tickets are scarce.  Taylor Swift, welcome to the rarefied air of selling more than 1M in week.  Congrats.

The most popular chart in the land is back GoJu Nation. And the freight train that is Far East Movement is still looking strong.  “Like a G6″ has been downloaded over 200K times this past week, keeping it at the #1 spot this week.  Glee must have been a repeat this week for there were no new releases on iTunes this week. And honestly outside of the Taylor Swift single releases pending her upcoming album, the charts are musical chairs. Which means 2 things GoJu nation 1) Your looking for some new fresh releases or 2) Your content with what the industry is releasing singles wise and your just getting your catalog solid.  Which either way bodes well for an industry that’s still trying to establish it’s 21st century business model.
