Unquestionably, YouTube has been one of the 21st century phenomenons that has become a social stable. You can’t visually stay relevant unless YouTube is inclusive in your plan. It brings your creative vision closer to the public and if your blessed to go viral, it can change your lifestyle. What GothamJungle loves about YouTube is the graying of the entertainment playing field. An aspiring actor can potentially receive just as many views as an award-winning thespian or reality show participant.

Usually at the beginning of the year you get a lot of top 10 lists & stats pertaining to the previous year etc. A lot of the information is fluff and provides no illumination whatsoever.  But this one stat screams GoJu Nation so it seemed appropriate.  It’s imperative to understand the landscape of the industry you wish to pursue. Especially in a recovering economy. It’s just prudent behavior. Now a lot of my world likes to ignore the facts and approach the music industry with a stubborn approach of “I’m chasing my dream”.  Well here’s some relevant material that will add some “color” to that “black & white” ambition.  This is good stuff GoJu Nation. Enjoy.

Here we are GoJu Nation. And the holidays are right around the corner. This means we’re gonna have to ramp up da movie charts over here at GothamJungle. I was literally at the movies yesterday which sparked this thought process. We haven’t been bombarded yet with the Christmas and animation movies but that will change very quickly here in the next couple weeks.  Your also gonna get a strong dose of emotional and award-winning book movies as this is the last of the Oscar push for these film companies.  So lets take a look at what transpired this weekend. There is an interesting trend.

The chart that gets your week off to a great start is here GoJu Nation. Even if it’s Tuesday lol. And this is interesting GoJu Nation. Although it cheated with a couple of earlier releases around the country, this past week “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” has broken the opening weekend debut mark with over $169M in receipts. The final chapter of this phenomenon is ending on a major high note. Grossing over $6.5B in receipts makes this the most successful movie franchise ever. Especially for a 8 movie stretch. In this age of social network and media being what it is, I’ll be surprised to see if another movie franchise will captivate the world the way the world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry has.

Monday and off hiatus. Were back GoJu Nation.  And that means da movie charts. So let’s get into it.  Of course Transformers 3 is the number one movie for the 2nd week in the row. What’s great about this is that the movie itself is good.  Transformers 2 wasn’t as sexy as it needed to be as a sequel and the appropriate changes were made accessing the missteps made in Transformers:  Revenge of the Fallen. Dark of the Moon is the truth.

“The Light of the Sun” is Jill Scott’s 4th studio album and her first on Warner Bros. after parting ways with her original home Hidden Beach. Now her 1st album is widely considered classic selling over 2.5M copies and solidifying her place as the potential queen of Neo-classic R&B next to Erykah Badu (whom she broke her bones writing for). The last couple of albums have also enjoyed gold plus status. That’s strongly because of her shows (there a MUST see) and her loyal female demographic. I firmly believe that every Tyler Perry fan also has every Jill Scott album. Now the empowering female messages are still there as well as her deep layers of love and relationship expression that separate her from the pack.

Let’s begin the week off right…. Da movie charts are here GoJu Nation. And the winner this week is Russell Brand. He has the #1 movie this week with ‘Hop’ and he seems primed for the same spot next week when his remake of the Dudley Moore classic ‘Arthur’ hits the theaters this week. The overseas import is making quite a splash on US soil. ‘Source Code’ predictably comes in at #2 this weekend. Noting again GoJu Nation that we’re looking at the fillers to buy us time till we get to the official summer blockbusters.

It’s Monday so here you are GoJu Nation.  Da Movie charts. Pretty slow weekend GoJu Nation.  Not one movie broke the 20M mark. Which is a lil telling but there are a couple of world issues that can make movies and disposable income moot this past weekend (Japan disaster and the US getting militarily involved in Libya for example). But ‘Limitless’ is your winner this weekend.  The Bradley Cooper/Robert DeNiro vehicle was the go to movie to begin the spring.  Now the great news is that the movie budget is less than 30M. So next weekend puts this one over the top from a recoup place. And it will overall be a success when the on demand and DVD money kicks in.

Back from hiatus GoJu Nation.  And we have the movie charts to start with. All of the new releases charted in the top 3 this week. Lead again by the animation genre. ‘Rango’ voiced by Johnny Depp holds the #1 spot grossing 38M in it’s 1st weekend.  It has a way to go to recoup that 135M budget but off to a good start.  The Matt Damon vehicle ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ with 20M comes in at #2.  There isn’t much to report post Oscar in the movie industry GoJu Nation. Only that the pace of movies will start to pick up dramatically in the next couple months. I’m gonna get off the soapbox early on this one and let you peruse the movie charts. Deuces.
